About project

This project explored the user experience of buying movie tickets in Nigeria, identifying challenges and developing a refined application to improve the process. Through research, interviews, and competitive analysis, I uncovered pain points such as:

  • Navigation difficulties

  • Payment issues

  • Lack of personalized recommendations

To address these issues, I created a user-centered movie ticket purchase application with:

  • Streamlined purchase process and intuitive interface

  • Personalized recommendations based on user preferences and viewing history

  • Scheduling and rescheduling features for flexibility

The goal was to revolutionize the movie ticket purchase experience, making it seamless and enjoyable for users. By prioritizing user experience and motivation, the application aims to increase engagement and satisfaction.

Problem

In Nigeria, moviegoers encounter inconvenience and inefficiency with traditional ticketing systems in theaters. Long queues, difficulty accessing real-time schedules, and updates lead to dissatisfaction and potential revenue loss. The project aims to solve these problems by offering an online platform for easy access to schedules, advance ticket purchases, and timely updates, enhancing the user experience and driving revenue growth for theaters and ticketing platforms.

Solution

By adhering to a well-defined design process, I ensured that every decision made was grounded in a systematic approach, providing confidence in the choices made and contributing to the development of a user-centric product. The process consisted of five stages: Empathize (user interviews and competitive analysis), Define (user persona and user journey mapping), Ideate (information architecture and user flow), Wireframe (low-fi and hi-fi wireframes), and Test.

Main Features

Home page

The home page offers a personalized experience, showcasing the top three movie recommendations tailored to the user's preferred genre and location. This curated selection ensures users can easily discover relevant movies. Additionally, the home page features a "view calendar" button, allowing users to access scheduled dates and times for their desired movies. Users can also explore popular movies and save their preferred movies in the "Favorites" section.

Movie Details

This page aims to offer users supplementary information about selected movies, including cast lists, reviews, trailers, and a concise summary.

Reschedule Ticket

The main objective of this page is to offer users a way to reschedule their purchased movie tickets in case they miss the initially chosen date, ensuring they can still use them on an alternative available day.

Approach To Creating The Solution

Research and Understanding the Problem

Five(5) people were interviewed to understand the areas where existing applications are lacking, including the problems, complaints, needs, and desires they have. This information was used to improve the user experience on this app.

Goal

  1. How users feel using the product

  2. How the user experience is

  3. How to make it better

  4. The challenges encountered

Target audience

  • Location : Urban areas in Nigeria

  • Age : 15 to 65 years

  • Education : High school level and above

  • Career : Student / Working

Takeaways from the interview

  1. Users want a platform where they can search for varieties of movies according to genres.

  2. Users would benefit from having a more convenient and efficient way to view available dates for movies.

  3. Users want a hassle-free booking experience that allows them to book at the spot and a wish list.

  4. Users want to be able to know when a movie ticket is sold out for a particular day.

Design Driven Ideas

Based on research conducted on the product and its users, a user journey and information architecture were developed to optimize the experience and make it more user-friendly.

Final Thoughts

Extensive testing and iteration during the design process allowed for significant improvements. Although initially conceived to address challenges in Nigeria, the current scope did not permit the inclusion of seating options. However, should the existing obstacles be overcome, future iterations may incorporate features like selectable seat numbers and VIP seating options, further enriching the user experience.
